HEDNO supports the SPARTAKOS Disabled Athlete Sports Association
As part of corporate social responsibility policy, HEDNO supported the SPARTAKOS Disabled Athlete Sports Association for the purchase of a new set of sails and the partial coverage of travel expenses for the participation of Paterakis Nikolaos in the Sailing World Championships held in Spain in July 2019 and the coastal Mediterranean Races held in Patras in August 2019.
SPARTAKOS is an athletic association for people with disabilities. It was founded in 1997 and it is based in Moschato. It is running under the umbrella of the National Sports Federation of Persons with Disabilities. It covers almost all Paralympic sports (sailing, swimming, track and field etc.) and its athletes, PATERAKIS Nikolaos, have achieved great distinctions (Olympic Champions, World Champions, Mediterranean Champions and Greek Champions).
PATERAKIS Nikolaos of Dimitrios is an ex employee at HEDNO/Attica Region Department and is currently a pensioner. He is one of the founding members of the association and has a rich sports background with numerous distinctions in various events including the 2004 Summer Paralympics and the 2008 Summer Paralympics in which he achieved the 8th and the 7th place in sailing, respectively. He achieved the first place at the “Athens Eurolymp Week” Greek Cup which was held at the Faliro Bay in March 2015 and was qualified for the Melbourne Sailing World Cup for November in the same year. The World Cup offered him the opportunity to qualify for the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, where Mr PATERAKIS Nikolaos made it to the 18th place in a total of thirty two (32) countries. Only the first fifteen (15) places were qualified to participate in the 2016 Paralympics.
By ensuring consistent support to athlete Paterakis Nikolaos, HEDNO is also helping to promote our country in world sports and championships.
